ADVANCED FLOW MODELING OF SUBMARINE

The design showcases the streamlined modeling and simulation of an optimized submarine hull shape for maximum maneuverability and minimum drag. Initial concept sketches inform the precise NURBS modeling in Ansys DesignModeler of the teardrop profile and protruding control surfaces. A structured mesh is applied, with finer detail around curved surfaces and regions of expected high flow gradients. Rigorous setup of the virtual wind tunnel environment models submersion at a range of depths, accounting for fluid compressibility effects at higher pressures.Transient CFD simulations employ the shear stress transport turbulence model to capture complex unsteady vortex shedding and boundary layer interactions, depicting surface stream traces and wake flow patterns. Vector plots quantify the balance of lift and drag forces together with torque and side loads at key phases through turns. Further parametric optimization modifies control surface shape and position for the optimal combination of speed, maneuverability and stealth at attack speeds.
